Refraction of light (4th Grade)

Experiments to understand refraction, by 4th Grade:

1. Put a pencil into a transparent glass full of water. Observe how it seems to be bent:

2. First, draw an arrow on a paper and stick in on the wall. Then, fill a glass with some water and put it right in front of the paper. Observe how the arrow changes direction!!!

So, what does REFRACTION consist of?

Light bends and changes direction when it passes from one transparent medium to another (water, glass,...).

Magnetism (6th Grade)

Hello everyone!

In 6th grade, we are experimenting with magnets. We had some entertaining lessons, in which we could explore the interesting world of magnetism.

We saw, drew and used magnets of different shapes:

We recognised the two different magnetic poles every magnet has, North and South, and we realised that if we put two magnets together, they can ATTRACT or REPEL. Opposite poles attract; the same poles repel.

ATTRACT:

REPEL:

We could also see the magnetic field lines after spreading out some iron fillings onto a paper, which was laid on a bar magnet.

Also, we learnt what temporary magnets are:

Invertebrates (3rd Grade)

Hello 3rd Grade!

What busy weeks we've had lately... ;)

We like to learn about the invertebrates because it is easy to observe them in class.

When we were working the MOLLUSCS, some pupils brought snails and slugs:

Also, we captured some INSECTS in order to see their three body parts: HEAD, THORAX and ABODOMEN, and to count their 6 legs:

One pupil brought a woodlouse, which is a CRUSTACEAN:

The International Space Station (4th Grade)

Hello boys and girls!

This is the International Space Station (ISS):

It is a laboratoy in space!

Astronauts live in the ISS. They study the Earth, the universe and they do experiments.

Astronaut Suri Williams explains us how life is up there:

ESA (European Space Agency) (4th Grade)

ESA stands for "European Space Agency". It is a European organisation that studies the Universe.

It has got a very interesting page in its website which is addressed to Kids: "ESA KIDS". Here, you will find lots of information, videos, missions, games, etc.

For example, you can watch a video of the Solar System:

Or learn about the life of anstronauts in space:

The technology provided by satellites...

And how the Earth can be observed from space:

I hope that you like it!

The Sun (4th Grade)

Good afternoon,

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured very detailed Sun pictures for 5 years. The result is this incredible video. Thanks to it, scientists could observe how the Sun works. Don't miss it:

A cool look at the sky! (4th Grade)

Hello everyone!

There are many amazing APPs that show us how the sky really looks like.

Fourth grade pupils tried one called Sky Map:

They could find different stars, constellations, planets and even galaxies!

It is very easy to use and you can spend hours and hours investigating the universe. We strongly recommend you to download this app or another (there are many more and most of them are free!).

Worms (5th Grade)

Hi, children!

Last day in class, when we were talking about worms you asked many questions, wishing to know more things abou these invertebrate animals. Well, let's start watching this interesting video, and then, we talk about it:

Videos of vertebrates (3rd and 5th Grades)

Hi children!

In 3rd and 5th grades, we are studying (or revising) the animals' classification. We like learning through videos, so here there is a selection of our favourites:

We make a lungs model! (4th Grade)

Good morning!!!

4th Grade pupils are studying the respiratory system. They made a model of it, in order to pay attention at the two breathing movements: BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT.

It's very easy and effective, you can do it at home!
