Plants (4th Grade)

Good morning!

In 4th Grade, we have been learning about the PLANTS. Today, we want to share with you some of the activities we have done.

1. At the beginning, we asked ourselves the following question:

What do plants need to grow?

We planted seeds in 6 different pots, each one with a specific variable:
- No water
- No soil
- No air
- No sunlight
- In the fridge
- Water, soil, sunlight, air, correct temperature.

We observed and compared the growth of these plants.

2. We planted some seeds in a tranparent CD case in order to observe the parts of the plants once while they were growing:

3. We learnt the parts of a flower by observing them carefully:

Parts of a flower (3rd Grade)

Hello!

Third Grade pupils are studying the parts of a flower, and LILIUMS are perfect flowers to do that, because their parts are clearly visible. We strongly recommend you to get some and observe them, using a magnifying glass or, if possible, a microscope. Then, all the parts can be drawn.

Plants (3rd Grade)

Hello 3rd Grade!

Let's start our new topic: PLANTS!

A good way to introduce it: going to our vegetable garden ;)

The life cycle of our plants (5th Grade)

Hello everyone!

In 5th Grade, we are studying the plants. Some days ago, each of us planted white beans seeds, and every day we have science, we water and observe them:

We also made an experiment: we planted white beans seeds in a box with some obstacles and a little hole on top. We wanted to see if a seed can grow without sunlight or very little sunlight. Now, we can assure that, amazingly, they grew faster than the others, looking for the sunlight!!!

What is chlorophyll? (3rd grade)

Chorophyll is a green substance that traps the sunlight.

So, chlorophyll makes the leaves green.
You can do a simple experiment to see it (with adult supervision):

1. Put a leaf in a jar with some alcohol:

2. Wait for a while and see what happens:

3. Wait some more time (hours), remove the leaf and observe its colour:

Now we can see what colour the leaf would be without chlorophyll.

We grow white beans (3rd B)

Hello, children of 3rd B!

The photos from your white beans!!!

***Sorry! I can't edit some picture to see them well!***

We grow white beans (3rd A)

Hi children!

What a veggie month!!! A part from collecting fruit in our vegetable garden, we have also planted some white beans in the science class, see:

What is Photosynthesis? (3rd grade)

"Photosynthesis"

What a long word! What does it mean?

Plants make their own food. This process is called Photosynthesis.

Pupils of 3rd grade: here there are two videos which explain the Photosynthesis. We are going to watch and discuss them in class, but you can watch them at home before next week, so that you are going to be more prepared:

Plants (5th Grade)

Hello boys and girls!

We have just finished Unit 2, which is about plants. And we have learnt a lot, haven't we???

Do you remember when we planted white beans? At first, we had some problems with the soil and the lack of sunlight (it was always foggy!), but finally we could grow our plants succesfully!

Some days later....

Sunlight is essential for the photosynthesis process.

We observed carefully our plant, using magnifying glasses in order to watch them better.

We also made some experiments. For example, we put one plant in a cupboard, so that it couldn't get any sunlight. We found out that it grew but it was weaker and yellow - it lacked chlorophyll.

We also wanted to learn more about the parts of a flower. So, we observed them through the microscope:

Here, we can see the stigma and the ovary with some ovules inside. They are female parts of the plant.

This is the anther, which carries the pollen. It is a male part of the plant.
